Music I listen to

Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Guns and Roses, ACDC, James Otto, and a few others.

Interesting facts about me

I am not a pheo or para patient, but my son-in-law has metastatic paragangliomia. He has had two surgeries and it is now in his bones in the rib and pelvic areas. He is doing chemo (CVD) now, and is going to Switzerland in 2-3 months for a treatment called Y90. My daughter Kim and I heard about this support board and decided to join to meet people facing some of the same problems we are facing. I am a breast cancer survivor (7 years now). A year ago I retired from teaching in a small Iowa town. I was a language arts teacher and still volunteer and substitute teach. I am married and have two daughters and five grandchildren. We lost our son in 2006 to suicide. He was 30. This continues to be heart wrenching, but our family is a close unit and we support one another. Thank you to all of you out there who pray for us as we pray for you. I only wish I could know you all personally. Keep me posted! Carol

    Hi Carol!

Thanks for checking in. I'm actually doing great. It's somewhat mysterious and miraculous. I had my first "episode" today in three weeks! I was having them at least once a day before that. Very odd.

The one big difference I've done is that I've slept a lot. I have been not getting up early in the morning, but laying around in bed with my three year old for until around 7:30 or 8, instead of getting up at 6:30 or 7. I think it helps! I got up early with an alarm clock this morning, and whammo--I had an attack this afternoon.

Blessings to you and your family!

Hi Abeja, I'm so glad that things are going well for you. We are struggling here with the spread of Steve's paras to the bone in his rib and pelvic areas. He started chemo and will go to Switzerland in a few months to do treatment there. Several groups are working on fundraisers for him, so we are truly appreciative. Check out his website at caringbridge.org (stevesargent). You can see his story and see photos of their family. Keep me posted. Love, Carol

    Hi Carol!

It seems we joined the board at about the same time. I have trouble navigating or remembering where I've left a post so that I can go see if anyone replied. So, I thought I'd tell you that I replied to you...geez, where was that....I think it was in the bios section under my bio...you asked about natural remedies to help your son-in-law.

I'd be happy to communicate directly if you want. I don't check emails more than once a week or so, but my email is abeja@emeraldearth.org.

    Blessings,

    Abeja

Hello my name is Yvonne and I'm a pheo survivor. I lost my right kidney to it. I have a large tumor were the kidney was, tumors in my lung and liver and bone disease all over. I just want to tell you I've read your comments on your son and he is a real inspiration. I wish him the best of luck with his fight.
I was wondering were you are from? I'm from PA. Yvonne

Vonnie, Thank you so much for the nice comments. It is my son-in-law who has the pheos. Now they call them paragangliomias. He has had surgery twice and is waiting to hear if he qualifies for MIBG. Right now he is taking a monthly shot of Sandostatin. Steve, my son-in-law and his wife Kim live in southwestern Wisconsin with their three children. My husband and I live in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Steve's illness was a real blow to the family. We lost our son David from suicide three years ago and are still trying to take all that in. Now Steve is constantly on our minds, as well as Kim and the kids. This site has been wonderful--so many throughtful people and so much information about pheos and paras. It all helps. Write me again. My e-mail is crdj@mchsi.com Carol
